Employee Spotlight: Emily Bowe

Emily Bowe is the Vice President of Product Marketing at BHG. She started in April of 2019 and in her short tenure with the company has held a number of different roles, won a few awards, and is now building a product marketing team to execute marketing campaigns across BHG and its family of companies.

If you’re passionate about marketing and are looking to join a company where you can own a product marketing strategy, here’s a spotlight on the leader you would be working alongside:

You joined BHG just over 1.5 years ago. Tell us about your career path.

I was originally hired as the VP of Content Strategy last April, responsible for writing all types of content: email copy, presentations, sell sheets, blog posts, white papers, etc. A couple months into the role, I met with our CMO to expand content to oversee branding at BHG. As VP of Brand, I led content, public relations, market research, partnerships, and employer branding to articulate who we are, what we do, and the benefits of working with us, across all our products.

How would you describe your role today?

I support a team of product marketers, who drive strategy and execution of marketing campaigns across all of our products. We work closely with key stakeholders to understand what our business goals are, and translate those into campaigns to drive lead flow and brand visibility.

This April, you won the Beast Award for your work on the Paycheck Protection Program. Can you share why?

One of the things I love most about BHG is our ability to pivot quickly, and that was a necessity when the pandemic hit. I was given the opportunity to lead customer communications for our borrowers—those in need of traditional loans, as well as PPP loans—and work with our partners to help their customers as well. I worked with an amazing team across the business to stand up a customer portal, engage our borrowers, and help them get the funds they needed to stay in business. In moments like that, we knew we had to be all in. We worked long hours, we worked weekends, we juggled a lot to keep our business moving forward. One thing that doesn’t go unnoticed here is your work ethic, and I’m thankful to be part of a company that loves execution as much as I do.

What is an accomplishment you’re most proud of?

We talk a lot about “our why” within the marketing team. That one thing that motivates us to come to work every day, and pushes us to give a little more than we did yesterday. For me, it’s building my team. I get to be part of a lot of exciting projects at BHG, but what I’m most proud of is the growth of my team: taking on new responsibilities, getting promotions, winning awards, getting more exposure to the business, finding their confidence. BHG Builds People Who Build BHG is our internal mantra, and I take that very seriously as a leader here.

What is the one trait someone needs to be successful on your team?

You need to have that hunger—that internal drive—where your passion takes over and you execute fast. You’re constantly thinking about new campaigns, new ideas, or things we can test. You don’t let obstacles stand in your way of making an impact, and you’re always striving to be better than you were yesterday.
